EMU Interior Architecture Department Academic Staff Analysed the UNDP-PFF Supported Restoration Work in Othello Castle

Eastern Mediterranean University Architecture Faculty Interior Architecture Department academic staff paid a technical visit to Othello Castle which is undergoing restoration work with the support of UNDP-PFF.

UNDP-PFF project member Fatma Terlik, who provided information regarding the restoration on the aforesaid venue, stated that the restoration work includes the completion of lost or decayed stones, control of water infiltration and conservation of walls, surfaces and decorative elements. The team from EMU was also informed that the restoration team is encountering difficulties in finding suitable stones for the renovation work to take place.

The academics who visited the renovation site stated that they will demonstrate awareness at every level to support the restoration of Othello Castle, which is an important element of cultural heritage.

Department chair Prof. Dr. Uğur Ulaş Dağlı stated that their department supports the restoration of all local buildings appearing as part of our cultural heritage as well as their sustainability with the support of modern technologies. With this target, the department has been developing new projects for the aforesaid buildings within the framework of the courses delivered and research conducted within the department.

Prof. Dr. Dağlı also invited Museums and Monuments Council as well as Department of Antiquities to take action on Famagusta city walls since they have a very special historical value.
