Within the framework of the collaboration protocol between Eastern Mediterranean University and Yıldız Technical University, Eastern Mediterranean University Architecture Department is successfully carrying out the architectural studio application during the 2014-2015 Spring Semester.
As part of the active collaboration between EMU and YTU's Architecture Departments and within the framework of ARCH392 Architectural Design Studio Course IV carried out by EMU Architecture Department and MT5 Architectural Design Studio 5 Course delivered by YTU, a project on 'housing, office and cultural functions' is being carried out within the area between İstanbul Büyükdere Avenue and Levent Street. The project is carried out under the supervision and coordination of Prof. Dr. Özgür Dinçyürek, Assoc. Prof. Dr. S. Müjdem Vural, Sen. Inst. Emre Akbil, Sen. Inst. Turuğsan Arslankelle, Sen. Inst. Sertaç İlter, Sen. Inst. Ali Tanrıkul, Research Assistant Aminreza İranmanesh and Research Assistant Elnaz Farjami.
During the technical trip which took place in İstanbul with the participation of 52 students taking ARCH 392 course, various analyses and observations were conducted on specific venues by the visiting architecture students. Following the students' active observations, YTU Architecture Department Vice Chair and MT5 Architectural Design Studio Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Candan Çınar delivered a detailed presentation on regional development, land qualities and project content while successful architect Cafer Bozkurt provided information on the history of İstanbul as a city, land development and various projects he carried out.
In this respect, the city and region chosen as a venue for the project were discussed in detail and the target towards spacial projects merging physical and social transformation has been shaped. Following the technical trip, students of ARCH 392 studio continued their involvement in the project with further analysis, maquettes and research groups and developed their own designs. The project jury of the course which evaluated 86 students' projects took place on 5 and 6 May 2015 with the participation of 12 jury members including YTU academic staff member Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Polatoğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Candan Çınar, EMU Architecture Faculty Academic Staff members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Beser Oktay Vehbi, Assist. Prof. Dr. Polat Hançer, Sen. Inst. Cenk Atun, Sen. Inst. Zafer Cafer Volkan and course coordinators.
ARCH392 Architectural Design Studio IV course carries special importance as it is the only studio course conducted outside Cyprus giving students the opportunity to carry out their studies in İstanbul as a metropolitan city.
