General Information

Applicant Profile:
The Master of Science in Interior Architecture Program is directed at and open to candidates who already hold bachelor’s degree in interior architecture, architecture, industrial design, landscape architecture or urban design who seeks to deepen their knowledge and make a scientific research in an advanced level on the special topics such as: theory, technology, revitalization/renovation/conservation and/or history, building/space, construction, environmental control and construction/project management.

Program Description:
The program is composed of five (5) core courses, four (4) elective courses and one (1) thesis study. Thesis study ideally starts at the third semester and expected to be completed and defended in front of a Master Thesis Defence Jury at the end of fourth semester.

The basic aims of the program are:
Within an interdisciplinary framework, to give opportunity to the students to make advanced theoretical research on interior architecture and interrelated issues; to bring students to a level of capability to interrelate and question theory and practice together; define/describe alternative interior architectural issues; and develop alternative solutions.

Content of the thesis study stated above, which is the most significant tool that bring students to a level of capability should include one of the approaches stated below and expected to contribute to the scientific platform. Thus thesis should be structured in a way to cover;

  • A theoretical study of the determined subject
  • A literature review
  • An evaluation of the determined subject
  • A discussion of the determined problem and development of the solutions
  • And evaluation of the determined subject through different research methods, such as case study research.

Duration of the program:
It is expected that the full-time students fullfill minimum 21 credits (90 ‘ects’* credits) in 4 semesters.

Aims of the program:
With successful completion of the program, the student is expected to develop/gain a critical thinking ability and expertise (advanced knowledge) on the theory of interior architecture and design; to be able to develop and conduct advanced research methods; to have deeper knowledge and understanding on the subject of his/her thesis study; to be able to understand and discuss the basic ideological issues of interior architecture and related areas.

Terms of application:
The holders of application (Applicants) of the program are expected to complete at least a four years bachelor’s degree either from interior architecture, architecture, industrial design, landscape architecture or urban design programs and they are expected to submit a portfolio in addition to the registrars office documents. Applicants who hold bachelors degree other than interior architecture or above listed related disciplines can get Conditional Acceptance where they are expected to take deficiency courses, recommended by the graduate committee of Interior Architecture Department.
