Emu and Erke Sustainable Building Design Consultancy Ltd. Sign a Cooperation Protocol

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Erke Sustainable Building Design and Consultancy Ltd. signed a cooperation protocol regarding the LEED Green Building Certification (Platin) of the New Central Lecture Halls and Education Faculty buildings. The protocol was signed by Prof. Dr. Osam and Cemil Yaman from Erke Sustainable Building Design and Consultancy Ltd. on the 6th of May 2016, at 11:30 at the Rector’s Office.

During the signature ceremony EMU Rector, Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam noted that with the settling of the said protocol, the university is taking an important step in working towards an ecological campus that values both art and the environment. Prof. Dr. Osam stated that as a result of the cooperation protocol, future buildings in EMU will be of higher quality and in synchronization with nature. Finally, Prof. Dr.Osam pointed out that when the construction period comes to an end, EMU is going to be the first institution in North Cyprus holding a LEED Green Building Platin Certificate.

During the signature ceremony Yaman noted that Erke Sustainable Building Design and Consultancy Ltd. has developed numerous projects in Turkey and other regions across the world. Yaman also noted that they are very proud to be involved in the construction of an educational building, underlining the fact that this building could be an example for the construction sector in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Head of EMU Architecture Faculty, Design and Research Center (TASAR) Assist. Prof. Dr. Ercan Hoşkara noted that they are very pleased to be working with Erke Sustainable Building Design and Consultancy Ltd. in order to create green building designs that will be eligible to acquire LEED certificates. Assist. Prof. Dr. Ercan Hoşkara also noted that he hopes that the design of the building spreads across EMU and then the Famagusta and Cyprus as a whole.

EMU Vice Rector in charge of Administrative and Technical Affairs, Prof. Dr. Bekir Ozer and the Rector’s Coordinator Assist. Prof. Dr. Arif Akkeles were also present at the cooperation protocol signature ceremony.
