EMU Faculty of Architecture prepared the 2019 Ahmet Vural Behaeddin Calendar
Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Architecture, Ahmet Vural Behaeddin Committee conducted a calendar study to keep the name and memory of the Architect alive for 2019. This calendar, prepared for the year 2019, is a work of Modernist Turkish Cypriot architect Ahmet Vural Behaeddin, who produced architectural works between 1951-1993, was a contest winner and was featured in the April 1965 issue of Baumeister magazine. It consisted of images belonging to the building named 'Nicosia Turkish High School'. Baumeister magazine is one of the most prestigious architectural magazines of the period, and the mentioned issue was divided into educational buildings. Even being in the issue where 11 very successful projects from all over the world are published is a strong indicator of the success of the design of the Girls' High School building.
This calendar study has been considered as an important document in order to keep alive the memory of Ahmet Vural Behaeddin, who left us a legacy of architectural works that can be regarded as direct evidence of the level of civilization, and to carry him to future generations with his architecture. The study was conducted by the Faculty of Architecture Ahmet Vural Behaeddin Committee within the scope of the protocol signed between EMU Faculty of Architecture and his wife Tülin Behaeddin on behalf of Ahmet Vural Behaeddin.
The launching event of the calendar was carried out under the auspices of the TRNC Ministry of National Education and Culture, Directorate of Culture, in the building of the Nicosia Girls' High School (today known as Nicosia Turkish High School). The event was attended by EMU Faculty of Architecture Ahmet V. Behaeddin Committee Chair and Architecture Faculty Vice Dean Assoc. Dr. Banu Tevfikler started with Çavuşoğlu's presentation about Architect Behaeddin.
EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Tanju Besler, EMU Architecture Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Özgür Dinçyürek, Ahmet V. Behaeddin's wife Tülin Behaeddin, gave speeches about the works of Ahmet V. Behaeddin and the traces he left in the memory of the society with his architectural personality, and the role he assumed in the development of society.
Prof. Dr. Besler and Prof. Dr. Dinçyürek has established such a valuable vision and designed the year 2019 as an important document in order to keep alive the memory of his wife Tülin Behaeddin and architect Ahmet V. Behaeddin for their material and moral contributions to all the works carried out to keep the name of Ahmet V. They thanked TRNC Minister of National Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit and Director of Culture Department Şehbal Hamzaoğulları for sharing the calendar and their contribution to the realization of the organization.
Then, TRNC Minister of National Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit
pointed out that Ahmet V. Behaeddin was one of the important values raised by
the Turkish Cypriot Community and emphasized that it is important to pass on
the works and ideas they left to future generations. Özyiğit said,
"We must shape our future by teaching correct and good examples to our
children." Following the speeches, Tülin Behaeddin and EMU Faculty of
Architecture Ahmet Vural Behaeddin Committee Assoc. Dr. Plaques of
appreciation were presented to Banu Tevfikler Çavuşoğlu.
