The FiFth International DesignWeek-EMU (IntDW2015-EMU)
The team of International Design Week 2015/EMU proudly announces this year's theme as "GREEN GESTURES" where the power of green design and its role in transforming the world will be highlighted. "GREEN" which reveals itself as an important word/adjective of the 21st century is expected to bring solutions to deep-rooted dilemmas such as poverty and climate change. Green design which demands a holistic approach to the design process and the product itself offer a challenging ground for the designers by inviting them to a world of intricate equilibriums. Considering this in mind, the intdw2015 invites professional from various disciplines to come together on 20-22 May 2015 in Famagusta with the students of architecture and interior architecture to exchange ideas and develop an understanding on green issues and finally come up with a product that will highlight the importance of green design in everyday life.
At the end of these activities, students should develop a detailed understanding of the entire process leading up to the making of the product, where they will learn to question
• what are the raw materials used....
• where they come from?
• what are the social implications of extracting the materials,
• can they be reused,
• recycled or
• biodegrade?
And also learn about creating a..
TIMELESS product, one with a technical and aesthetic durability, that will last generations .
UP-CYCLE – ed product where there is an infinite loop of reuse and there is no loss in quality of the material, or the material has the ability to naturally biodegrading releasing its nutrients back in to the environment..
In the light of this perspective, the International Design Week 2015/EMU invites professional from various disciplines to come together on 20-22 May 2015 in Gazimağusa to exchange ideas and develop an understanding on green issues which will come to body as a final product that will highlight the importance of green design in everyday life.
Students who participate in these activities are expected to develop a detailed understanding of the entire process leading up to the making of the product, where they will learn to question what sort of raw materials they used, where they come from, whether they can be reused, recycled or biodegrade and what are the impacts of extracting these materials..
